First Homework Assignment

a-1-2-a-five-senses              a-1-2-b-five-senses

This is their first homework assignment so I’m giving a little extra guidance to help make sure we all meet the expected standards.  There is a copy of the worksheet included for downloading if it’s broken or lost.

This assignment is due Monday October 1st.

What I do expect: (If these are not met, points will be deducted from their score)

  • pictures must be coloured
  • name, number and class must be written on BOTH sides of the paper
  • neat writing, with proper spacing
  • completed work

What I DON’T expect:

  • perfection, they are little I want them to do it themselves.  I want to see the children’s work no yours! (of course you can help them but please let them do it themselves).
  • everything to be correct, I don’t expect them to get everything right and if there are errors they won’t be deducted as long as they show they understood the concept of goal of the homework.
  • correct spelling, you’re welcome to help them correct their spelling but as long as I can phonetically read and figure out what they meant I don’t deduct spelling.  This is science class and our focus isn’t spelling and grammar, the focus in our class is the concepts.

I have included some step by step photos and an example of final product.  Please DO NOT glue the worksheet into the science notebook, I will guide the students on how to do that in class after the assignment has been graded.

Materials Homework

As the students become more independent there will be less of these tutorials, or they will become more simple.

For this homework, I would again like to remind everyone that I want to see the students’ work. Of course help and guide them but I would like them to sort the items themselves. Please remind them that they must color all the pictures, write neatly, and to try their best!

Please let me know if there are any questions!

Homework Assignment: Scientific Method

We did our own experiment today to demonstrate the scientific method.

First we asked a question, Who can clap their hands faster? We wrote a hypothesis. Then we planned a fair test, by having a clapping race. We did our test counting how many times they could clap in 10 seconds. We did our test three times each, recorded our data and then wrote a conclusion based on our hypothesis.

If the students were unable to finish writing in class, you can see the examples for each class here.

Welcome Grade One!

Please keep you eye on the blog for information, pictures and videos!

This is the grade one science blog with Ms. Vince.  I will be handing out consent forms for photos on the blog so I can share pictures of class activities with you.  I will also be posting important information, videos, s418295_10150557136168425_297974002_nome clarifications and communications and anything else I feel you might need to know.

Please click on the subscribe button to the right to get email updates when I have posted (grade two parents, previously grade one you can unsubscribe in the bottom of the email I think and then go subscribe to the grade 2 blog). If you don’t want to subscribe, that’s ok but please do remember to check into the blog every couple of weeks to see what’s new.

I’m currently doing my master’s degree in international education as well as teaching full time, so I don’t always have the time I would like to post on here as often as I want.  But I promise to do my best to update often.

I’m looking forward to a great year with the students, we’re going to have a lot of fun together.

I’ll see you all on Saturday, please don’t hesitate to email or call if you have any questions.  My Email is msmvince@gmail.com and my extension is 342.

You can try these experiments at home together!!!
